
MCLEAN, Va., June 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Alion Science and Technology to support the Naval Warfare Systems Center with radio waveform certification support.
U.S. company Alion was awarded the contract to support the SPAWAR Systems Center San Diego, Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence.
Under the $1.23 million deal, Alion will provide SPAWAR PEO C4I with Link-16 EMC (electromagnetic capability) radio waveform services to expand the current system's capabilities.
The Link-16 EMC is the U.S. Defense Department's data link connecting aircraft, ships and ground forces. As part of the contract Alion will provide modeling and simulation support to PEO C4I among other services.
"The new radio waveforms for Link-16, will expand the capabilities of the current system and provide better, more accurate exchanges of battlefield information to assist the warfighter and promote higher rates of mission success," Sue Archer, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Operational Solutions Group, said in a statement.
"The waveforms are being implemented in a variety of terminals, including the Multifunctional Information Distribution System, Joint Strike Fighter, and the Joint Tactical Radio System to help reveal locations of friendly and enemy forces."
