ORLANDO, Fla., May 8 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin a follow-on contract to support the DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyer modernization program.
U.S. company Lockheed Martin was awarded the contract to retrofit the DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyer's engine controllers.
Officials said the contract, worth $14.7 million if all options are exercised, follows three previous contracts from the Navy for work supporting the DDG-51 modernization program.
According to a news release, the engine-controller retrofit includes "computer program integration support; engineering services and support for the hull, mechanical and electrical systems and replacement of the machinery control systems."
"This modernization effort will replace aging equipment to provide updated engine controls, provide an enhanced user interface and onboard data-storage capabilities and address obsolescence," Jim Craig, Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training and Support vice president of ground, maritime and civil solutions, said in a statement.
