BETHESDA, Md., May 4 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin announced the acquisition of Scotland-based weapons-system support company Imes Strategic Support Ltd.

Lockheed Martin said its Lockheed Martin U.K. Ltd. unit announced the purchase. Under the acquisition agreement, Lockheed Martin will purchase ISSL, a company supporting the British Royal Navy's Trident Strategic Weapons System with engineering, maintenance and repair services.

"Lockheed Martin is already a leader in the development, design and servicing of strategic weapons systems in the United States, and this transaction represents a natural strategic fit," Joanne Maguire, Lockheed Martin Space Systems executive vice president, said in a statement.

"ISSL will provide an important set of capabilities in the United Kingdom and will enable us to offer a broader set of solutions to our U.S. and U.K. customers."

Terms of the acquisition were not released.
