GD's CDS completes Navy's design review

FAIRFAX, Va., May 1 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy says a display console by General Dynamics has successfully completed a design review ahead of integration into the DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class ships.

General Dynamics says its Advanced Information Systems unit's Common Display System console successfully completed the Navy's critical design review.

The Common Display System, developed as part of the Navy's fleet-wide Aegis ship modernization program, is an interoperable system designed with open architecture enabling frequent technology updates.

The Common Display System will be integrated into the Navy's new DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class ships.

"By applying our open architecture framework to the Common Display System, we are delivering to the Navy a low-risk, flexible design with proven multi-level security functions and the ability to rapidly insert new capabilities," Mike Tweed-Kent, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems vice president and general manager of integrated combat systems, said in a statement.

"With the completion of the Critical Design Review, we are on track to begin production this summer."
