Skanska awarded British RAF deal

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 28 (UPI) -- The British Ministry of Defense has contracted Skanska to support a modernization program with the construction of new facilities for the Royal Air Force.

Swedish project development and construction company Skanska was awarded the contract from the British Defense Ministry's Defense Estates unit for construction work at Wyton air base in Cambridgeshire, England.

Under the almost $220 million contract, Skanska will construct three buildings at the base. According to a news release, Skanska will also be responsible for "all engineering as well as the mechanical and electrical installations in the new buildings."

Officials said the work is expected to be completed in 2013.
