WILMINGTON, Mass., April 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has begun evaluating a new cargo-screening technology from Implant Sciences as part of a congressional mandate.
The TSA is working to meet the mandates of legislation that requires all passenger aircraft cargo to be screened for explosives and other threats. As part of an ongoing effort to meet the requirements, TSA officials are reviewing U.S. company Implant Sciences Corp.'s new Quantum Sniffer QS-H300 Air Cargo Screening System for possible deployment.
Company officials accelerated the development of the Quantum Sniffer in a move to address the increased effort to meet the congressional cargo-screening mandates. The Quantum Sniffer was designed for fast and efficient non-contact screening of cargo regardless of size.
"At the urging of air-cargo-industry leaders, Implant Sciences accelerated the development of the QS-H300 and was ready to respond when the TSA called for the evaluation of new technologies capable of meeting the air-cargo-screening challenge," Glenn Bolduc, Implant Sciences chief executive, said in a statement.
"Implant Sciences is committed to developing advanced anti-terrorism technology in support of these new homeland-security measures."
