Teen solves centuries-old math problem
COSTA MESA, Calif., April 1 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has placed an order with Ceradyne Inc. for a delivery of the company's XSAPI ceramic body-armor plates.
U.S. company Ceradyne received the $77 million order as part of the five-year, $2.37 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract the company was awarded in October.
Under the deal, Ceradyne will ship its XSAPI ceramic body-armor plates to support Army soldiers with protections from ballistic threats in combat zones.
"This new armor system was designed by Ceradyne's extensive ceramic, polymer and ballistic research team here in Costa Mesa and Irvine, Calif.," David Reed, Ceradyne North American operations president, said in a statement.
"The XSAPI design is the most robust ballistic protection available to our American fighting men and women. It not only stops the most lethal 'X' ballistic threats but also defeats other threats."
