WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- BrainScope Co. has completed a recent traumatic brain injury data acquisition in a push to develop technologies that treat U.S. troops exposed to explosions.

The National Neurotechnology Initiative Act was recently introduced into both houses of Congress. The act and the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury are part of a U.S. government initiative calling for a uniform test for traumatic brain injury for soldiers.

In response to the call and in support of the neurotechnology initiative, U.S. company BrainScope said it is working to develop a brain assessment device that can identify traumatic brain injuries in military troops and make other emergency first-on-scene assessments. BrainScope announced its recent completion of data acquisition in high school athletes with mild traumatic brain injury as part of the ongoing effort to support U.S. troops.

"Clinical trials of BrainScope's brain-function assessment devices are under clinical study to assess their capability to perform," Michael Singer, BrainScope chief executive, said in a statement.

"Our investigative technology has the potential to create a highly useful capability for assessment of traumatic brain injury. We support the National Neurotechnology Initiative Act and commend its champions for making this issue a priority."
