Japan contracts for shipboard mission tech

PARSIPPANY, N.J., March 17 (UPI) -- Curtiss-Wright Corp. has been contracted to provide the Japanese Ministry of Defense with shipboard mission technologies for the Japanese navy.

U.S. company Curtiss-Wright was contracted by Mitsubishi Corp. to supply its Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse Mark VI helicopter-handling system to the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

The RAST Mark VI will be integrated on board the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force 20DD destroyer platform. Officials said the integration of the RAST Mark VI marks the second ship in a class of Japan's helicopter-capable destroyers "designed to incorporate the latest advancements in shipboard mission systems," a news release said.

"We are very pleased to continue our support of this important ship program," Martin Benante, Curtiss-Wright chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.

"The improved RAST Mark VI system demonstrates our engineering expertise in providing advanced performance and innovative equipment designs and in providing profound value to our customers through operational efficiency."
