BEDFORD, Mass., March 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has contracted Mitre Corp. to provide national-security support services.

Mitre, an independent non-profit security-analysis organization, was awarded a contract to support the department's Systems Engineering and Development Institute.

As part of the deal, Mitre will support the institute, a federally funded research and development center, in its mission to provide the Homeland Security Department with engineering and acquisition-strategy analysis services.

"This news is extremely gratifying," Alfred Grasso, Mitre president and chief executive, said in a statement.

"The SEDI, which was competitively awarded, offers new opportunities for Mitre to continue our efforts in support of national security and to work in partnership with DHS to ensure the success of their mission and goals."
