WASHINGTON , March 5 (UPI) -- South Korean defense officials have contracted ICx Technologies to develop a mass spectrometer for military reconnaissance vehicles.
U.S. company ICx Technologies said its Analytical Instruments and BioDefense business units will develop chemical and biological mass spectrometer technology to enable military reconnaissance vehicles to detect possible warfare agents.
Officials said the contract, worth up to $40 million dollars, is part of an effort by South Korea to counter terrorism and asymmetric warfare.
"We are pleased that the quality of our sensors and solutions (is) being recognized on an international level," Hans Kobler, ICx Technologies chief executive, said in a statement.
"It also strongly validates the strength of our mass spectrometers, their capabilities and the power of our (chemical and biological) business units."
