MINNEAPOLIS, March 5 (UPI) -- The Colombian air force has contracted Alliant Techsystems, known as ATK, to modify three aircraft to support emergency medical operations.

U.S. company ATK was contracted to modify three aircraft for Colombia's Health and Social Services Ministry to be medevac-capable in support of military and civilian emergency medical evacuations.

"ATK is expanding its special-mission aircraft business by delivering affordable solutions to a growing international customer set," Bill Kasting, ATK Integrated Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

"Our facilities are capable of quickly turning a wide variety of commercial aircraft into special-mission aircraft that support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, as well as medical-evacuation missions for customers that need advanced capabilities at an affordable price."

Under the $14.4 million contract, ATK will modify a King Air 350 and two Cessna 208B Grand Caravans aircraft for Colombia.
