FAIRFAX, Va., March 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Command has contracted SRA International Inc. to provide program and planning services to support defense distribution and logistics.

U.S. company SRA, which has worked for the Defense Department for 10 years, was contracted by Transcom for its strategic consulting solutions in support of program development.

Under the five-year deal, worth $48 if all options are exercised, SRA will provide Transcom with support for automatic identification technology and other services to track U.S. forces, equipment and sustainment supplies in the distribution process.

"SRA is in a position to ensure uninterrupted support to this critical requirement," George Batsakis, SRA vice president and director of logistics, said in a statement.

"AIT and the related technology known as radio-frequency identification are critical components of the Defense Department supply chain. By continuing to provide subject-matter expertise to Transcom and its national partners, SRA will contribute to policy, standards and planning activities related to the broader Defense Department AIT requirement."
