ROSELAND, N.J., March 2 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding has contracted Curtiss-Wright Corp. to support the construction of the USS Somerset for the U.S. Navy.

New Jersey-based Curtiss-Wright was contracted by Northrop Grumman's shipbuilding unit to supply helicopter hangar-door equipment. The hangar-door system from Curtiss-Wright will be integrated into the USS Somerset, an amphibious transport dock ship.

Officials said the USS Somerset is part of the Navy's new San Antonio-class of amphibious transport/landing platform dock ships.

"The hangar-door equipment is a critical part of the systems that enable the Navy's ships to protect our nation, and we are pleased to continue our support of the LPD-ship program," Martin Benante, Curtiss-Wright chief executive and chairman, said in a statement.
