WARRENVILLE, Ill., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. company Navistar Defense announced the launch of its next-generation mine-resistant ambush-protected wrecker vehicle.

Navistar Defense unveiled its new International MaxxPro Wrecker MRAP vehicle at the Association of the U.S. Army Winter Symposium and Exposition in Florida.

Officials said the new International MaxxPro Wrecker is designed to protect troops in combat zones from roadside bombs and other explosive threats during missions outside the wire to retrieve damaged vehicles.

"The wrecker is another example of what Navistar is capable of configuring from one proven and reliable platform," Archie Massicotte, president of Navistar Defense, said in a statement.

"The Navistar design maximizes the supportability and maintainability of these vehicles with a high degree of commonality of parts among all MaxxPro variants."

Navistar Defense additionally announced the release of its new MaxxPro Cargo and MaxxPro Tractor MRAP variants.
