MIDDLETOWN, R.I., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. company Frontline Robotics announced it has integrated technologies from KVH Industries to develop an unmanned patrol vehicle.

Frontline selected KVH's CNS-5000 continuous navigation system and integrated the technology into its Grunt autonomous unmanned ground vehicle.

Frontline officials said the Grunt vehicles are designed to support the 24-hour surveillance of airports, borders, military bases and other large sensitive locations while keeping security authorities out of harm's way.

Officials said the CNS-5000 system incorporates KVH's fiber-optic technologies and a global positioning system to support autonomous navigation.

"We are excited that Frontline Robotics chose the CNS-5000 to provide navigational data for the Grunt autonomous unmanned ground vehicle," Sean McCormack, KVH sales manager, said in a statement.

"These vehicles work in an incredibly demanding environment, and the CNS-5000 offers a range of benefits that help to maintain performance and reliability, even as the environment changes."
