Herley's TILS contract option exercised

LANCASTER, Pa., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Herley Industries Inc. says it will continue to produce its F/A-18 Tactical Instrument Landing Systems after a contract option was exercised by the U.S. Navy.

U.S. company Herley said the Navy exercised a contract option worth more than $4.7 million. Under the deal, Herley will continue to supply its Tactical Instrument Landing Systems for the F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft E, F and G variants and also the E-2D Hawkeye radar-equipped Navy aircraft.

Herley, which has now been awarded three of the four contract options, said its TILS is a landing-system technology that offers guidance for aircraft carrier landings.

"Herley has been successfully producing the Tactical Instrument Landing Systems since we acquired Stewart Warner in 1995," Myron Levy, Herley chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"The Tactical Instrument Landing System began as an initial multiyear contract for the F/A-18E/F Boeing 'Super Hornet' and is being expanded to cover the E/A-18G 'Growler' jammer aircraft and the E-2D 'Advanced Hawkeye' radar surveillance aircraft."
