RESTON, Va., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has selected Unisys Corp. to participate in bidding for the Radio Frequency Identification III program contract vehicle.
U.S. company Unisys says it was selected by the Army Program Executive Office-Enterprise Information Systems, along with three other defense contractors, for the RFID III program.
Unisys and the other companies will compete for task orders from the indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract vehicle worth $428 million. The RFID III program is an initiative by the Defense Department to upgrade RFID technologies and advance solutions for an open RFID infrastructure to enhance operational readiness and safety.
"With RFID III, Unisys plans to assist the Department of Defense in moving from proprietary technology towards the international standard for a more open RFID infrastructure," Jim Geiger, Department of Defense, Unisys Federal Systems managing partner, said in a statement.
"Unisys is very proud that the Defense Department has selected Unisys as a partner in implementing these standards. The result will be a less expensive and more flexible and reliable path forward."
