ASHBURN, Va., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Telos Corp. has been contracted by the U.S. Army to provide the Defense Department with biometrics infrastructure support.

Virginia-based Telos, along with 11 other prime contractors, was awarded the contract to support the Army executive agency Biometrics Task Force.

Under the $497 million Biometrics Operations and Support Services Unrestricted contract, Telos will provide its biometrics technologies and related services to support the U.S. national security strategy.

The Army's Biometrics Task Force is responsible for maintaining the Defense Department's biometric database and ensuring it has advanced capabilities to operate.

"This contract signifies an important win for Telos, because it will give us the opportunity to demonstrate new capabilities that can be fielded in support of the premier organization dedicated to protecting the nation through the employment of biometrics," Robert Brandewie, Telos Identity and Security Solutions senior vice president, said in a statement.

"We plan to draw on the capabilities for infrastructure development demonstrated under the Air Force's network-centric contract vehicle, under which Telos is a prime contractor, as we bring cutting-edge solutions to our Defense Department customers under this contract."
