HERNDON, Va., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency has contracted EDS for the company to review Defense Department security readiness.

DISA awarded U.S. company Electronic Data Systems a $111 million contract to work with the Defense Department's Field Security Operations division to provide security readiness reviews. The contract is part of an initiative to increase the capacity of the Defense Department to counter security threats and protect operational capabilities.

Under the deal, EDS, a division of Hewlett-Packard Co., will partner with the FSO to review Defense Department enterprises, networks and systems, among other requirements, and evaluate the level of security and vulnerability to threats.

"By providing security readiness reviews, we will help DISA to counter security threats," Dennis Stolkey, EDS senior vice president of U.S. public sector, said in a statement.

"This contract builds on a longstanding relationship between EDS and the agency. We look forward to continuing to provide the right people, processes and technology to help DISA align technology with the Defense Department's needs into the future."
