Canada modifies deal for more MRAPs

LADSON, S.C., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The Canadian Department of National Defense has modified a contract with Force Protection Inc. for additional mine resistant ambush protected vehicles.

South Carolina-based Force Protection says it received a $49.4 million contract modification for the company to supply an additional 14 of its Buffalo A2 route-clearance MRAP vehicles and 34 of its Cougar MRAP vehicles.

Force Protection officials say the delivery of the MRAP vehicles under the modified deal, which also includes spare parts and field support, is scheduled in 2009.

"Our NATO allies continue to face threats from roadside bombs, land mines and many other types of improvised explosive devices," Michael Moody, Force Protection chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We are delighted that the Canadian military will be receiving this life-saving equipment for use in supporting their operations in the global war on terror."
