FRANKLIN, Mass., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Massachusetts-based Berry Plastics Corp. has released a new peel-and-stick tape system to protect soldiers from debris in unstable structures.

Berry Plastics announced the release of its X-Flex Blast Protection System. Officials say the flexible tape is designed to be used in combat zones and applied to unstable surfaces offering protection to soldiers from falling debris as a result of previous blast loads.

The X-Flex, developed in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, is a "stretch-and-catch system" that quickly retrofits walls so that soldiers and other officials can operate safely in compromised structures.

"We are excited to be able to introduce a truly unique and unparalleled product that is going to save lives, reduce injury and offer another level of protection to soldiers, military personnel or anyone working in a structure that is located in a battle zone or high-risk arena," Elizabeth Curran, Berry Plastics business development manager, said in a statement.

"In areas where threat risk is high, X-Flex helps provide a measure of safety that was previously unavailable."
