SAN DIEGO, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- British company BAE Systems has been selected by Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine to receive a Program Excellence award.

Aviation Week, a weekly magazine covering the defense and aerospace industry, announced it has named a BAE-led team winner of its Program Excellence award for the company's upgrades to the British army's FV430 Bulldog battlefield taxi.

Officials say the award recognizes the BAE team for its upgrades to the Bulldog's engine that reduced maintenance costs and increased reliability. The BAE team also upgraded the Bulldog's armor and weapons technologies to address the evolving threats faced by troops operating in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The award recognizes the vital role that we and our partners played in supporting the front line, and the fact that it represents recognition by the rest of the defense and aerospace industry makes the award that bit more significant," Ian Mogey, BAE Systems Bulldog team leader, said in a statement.
