MANCHESTER, N.H., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Oasys Technology and eMagin Corp. to support the Thermal Weapon Sight Remote Viewer program.

Oasys and eMagin were awarded a $26 million contract from the Army. Under the deal, Oasys will provide 20,000 of its Remote Eyepiece Display-Imager display systems. The head-mounted RED-I is used with eMagin's OLED-XL micro-display technology in support of the Thermal Weapon Sight Remote Viewer program.

Officials say the RED-I and the OLED-XL are ruggedized technologies capable of functioning in extreme cold and can be integrated with next-generation and current Thermal Weapon Sight systems used by military personnel to identify targets in low-visibility conditions.

"eMagin's OLED-XL micro-display exhibits excellent contrast properties, enabling low temperature operation and extremely low power requirements that are key to the meeting the performance specifications for the thermal weapon sight system," Brett Rosner, Oasys chief operating officer, said in a statement.
