STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Land Systems has been contracted to develop new tank variants for the Saudi Arabian Royal Saudi Land Forces.
General Dynamics was awarded a $58.3 million deal, as part of a foreign military sales contract, to test and deliver a new hybrid configuration of its M1A1 main battle tank variants for the Saudi Arabian armed forces.
The contract, awarded by the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Lifecycle Management Command, is an initiative by the Saudi Arabian government to upgrade the Royal Saudi Land Forces tanks and "increase lethality while limiting obsolescence," the release said.
Officials say the engineering work will take place at General Dynamics' Michigan facilities.
