ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted VSE Corp. to provide the Letterkenny Army Depot with support for the route clearance vehicles modernization program.

Virginia-based VSE was awarded a $194 million contract from the Army Central Command to support the Letterkenny Army Depot located in Pennsylvania.

Officials say Letterkenny is managing the improvised explosive devices route clearance vehicle modernization initiative. VSE will lead a team that includes six other defense contractors in managing Letterkenny's modernization facility.

The route clearance modernization is part of a larger effort to better protect U.S. and allied troops in the Iraqi and Afghan combat zones.

"This award builds on our capabilities in vehicle engineering, technology insertion and repair, and on our experience in providing these services under very difficult circumstances," Thomas Dacus, VSE federal group president, said in a statement.
