MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted BearingPoint Inc. to support information management and business process improvement.

Virginia-based BearingPoint was awarded a five-year, $22.3 million deal from the Marine Corps headquarters to help enhance the department's mission performance. The announced contract follows a $15.6 million contract from Marine Corps Systems Command awarded on Oct. 16.

Officials say BearingPoint will provide information management services in support of the Marine Corps' planning, programming, budgeting and execution process as mandated by the Defense Department.

"As budgets tighten, the Marines require technology and support services to better manage and justify budget requirements," Beth Smith, BearingPoint Navy sector senior vice president, said in a statement.

"The anticipated tasks under this contract will support Marine Corps leadership through a full end-to-end suite of business process and system enhancements, allowing them to make better informed critical decisions in the coming years."
