SAN DIEGO, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Frost & Sullivan has selected BioSentry, made by U.S. company JMAR Technologies, as the top biological threat detection product in 2008.

Frost & Sullivan, a business analysis and consulting firm, named JMAR Technologies' BioSentry water monitoring technology as the 2008 North American Biological Detection Product of the Year.

JMAR Technologies officials say the BioSentry is designed to detect pathogen threats through a constant monitoring of a water supply. Frost & Sullivan named the BioSentry technology the top biological detection product for its online threat monitoring and automated response capabilities.

"This recognition from one of the world's most respected consulting firms verifies the revolutionary solution BioSentry provides," Neil Beer, JMAR Technologies chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"The contamination of water supplies -- intentional or accidental -- can have deadly impacts almost immediately. BioSentry's capability is invaluable for ensuring health and security."
