Defense Dept. contracts for ID technology

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has contracted HID Global for the company's printer encoder technologies in support of identity protection initiatives.

California-based secure identity technologies developer HID Global was contracted to supply the Defense Department's Defense Manpower Data Center with its Fargo HDP5000-LC printer encoder systems.

Officials say the Fargo system will be used as part of the Defense Department's Common Access security identification card program and will be deployed at defense installations around the world.

"This contract reinforces our leadership position in the secure issuance market and fully demonstrates our ability to continually meet and exceed customer expectations for ID credentials," Denis Hebert, HID Global president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
