BAMS UAS to use Rolls-Royce engines

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Rolls-Royce has been contracted by Northrop Grumman for its engine technologies in support of a U.S. Navy unmanned aircraft system program.

U.S. company Northrop Grumman is the prime defense contractor for the Navy's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance unmanned aircraft system.

The Navy contracted Northrop Grumman for the company to produce the RQ-4N maritime derivative of the RQ-4B Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle used for reconnaissance and surveillance by the Air Force.

As part of the Navy deal, Northrop Grumman contracted Rolls-Royce for its AE 3007H engines to power BAMS UAS.

"Rolls-Royce AE 3007H turbofan engines are the natural choice for Northrop Grumman because of their outstanding performance, high altitude capabilities and extensive operational experience on the RQ-4 Global Hawk," Carl Johnson, Northrop Grumman BAMS UAS program vice president, said in a statement.
