PHOENIX, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army announced a contract with BAE Systems for the company to supply its flexible body armor technologies for use by pilots and aircrews.
The Army awarded British company BAE a $5 million deal for its Air Warrior Flexible Body Armor. Officials say the armor system offers Army aircrews protection from munitions and other threats in a flexible system that still allows for ease of aircraft operation.
"The Air Warrior Flexible Body Armor system allows the Army's aviation community to fly its missions at a higher protection level," Sean Martin, BAE Systems director for business development of individual equipment, said in a statement.
"This system utilizes a state-of-the-art design and allows the aviator and crew member to operate at a higher protection level within their environment."
