BAE demonstrates CID technology

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- British company BAE Systems has demonstrated a new technology that helps a combat pilot identify friendly forces on the ground.

BAE announced the successful demonstration of its new Combat Identification System that help pilots identify the positions of friendly forces in combat zones to avoid casualties of U.S. and allied troops.

Officials say BAE's CID technology accesses ground situational awareness data in less than 10 seconds so that close-air-support aircraft pilots can accurately identify where friendly troops are located.

"The CID server is a perfect example of how we can improve combat identification capabilities and combat effectiveness and save lives," Bob Summitt, Joint Forces Command Joint Fires Integration and Interoperability Team senior analyst, said in a statement.

"It gives pilots a view of friendlies in the area that they've never had before."
