HAWTHORNE, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has contracted OSI Systems Inc. for the supply of additional X-ray scanning technologies.

California-based OSI Systems says its Rapiscan Systems security division was awarded a follow-on deal with the TSA for additional 620DV dual-view X-ray systems for additional deployment at airports around the United States.

The newly announced, approximately $15 million deal for the Rapiscan 620DV systems adds to a previous contract with the TSA from August 2007. Officials say the combined contracts total approximately $32 million.

The Rapiscan 620DV, deployed at security checkpoints at the Los Angeles International Airport among other locations, offers multiple views of carry-on bags, adding a greater ability to detect potential threats.

"TSA's adoption of the 620DV technology demonstrates Rapiscan's continuing leadership in delivering efficient, effective checkpoint screening technologies that the aviation security market demands today," Ajay Mehra, Rapiscan Systems president, said in a statement.

"The system's flexibility ensures that it will remain a key contributor to aviation security for years to come."
