Both teams were supported by U.S. defense contractor Raytheon, which developed the new baseline combat AN/BYG-1 TI-06 submarine sonar technology for deployment with the Navy's fleet of submarines. In accepting the award, officials recognized Raytheon for the successful development of the BYG-1 program.

"Your (Raytheon's) ability to work efficiently and effectively as a team has been exemplary," Navy Capt. Brian Vance said in a statement.

"Your unprecedented accomplishments allowed your team to demonstrate exceptional initiative, flexibility and technical expertise to deliver a capable, stable and reliable product."

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport along with defense contractors General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems and Lockheed Martin Undersea Systems were also recognized with the announced award.
