Turkey contracts for helicopter engines

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A Honeywell and Rolls-Royce partnership has been contracted by the Turkish army to provide engine technologies for the AgustaWestland T129 helicopter.

Turkish defense officials selected the T129 helicopter to support the army's Tactical Reconnaissance and Attack Helicopter Program. The T129 helicopter is powered by CTS800-4A engines made by the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Co., a Honeywell and Rolls-Royce partnership.

Under the $96 million deal, LHTEC will supply Turkey with 100 engines with options for an additional 40 engines.

"This award further illustrates the strength of the LHTEC engine series," Ken Roberts, Rolls-Royce helicopters business unit president.

"Already in service powering the Super Lynx 300 for the Royal Malaysian Navy, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Air Force of Oman and the South African air force, the CTS800 has also been selected to power the British Ministry of Defense's Future Lynx helicopter program."
