MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has approved a communication technology developed by Amcom for use by the U.S. government and military.

The Defense Department Joint Interoperability Test Command announced its approval for Minneapolis-based Amcom's communications software suite. Officials say with the successful testing, Amcom's communications technology has passed the required Information Assurance security requirements of the U.S. government.

Officials say the Amcom communication software suite, which has met the U.S. government security requirements since 1999, is a company initiative to provide reliable and secure communication technologies that are interoperable across platforms or geography.

"We're thrilled to have again achieved this high-level approval," Chris Heim, Amcom chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We view Joint Interoperability Test Command and Information Assurance approval as a key way to prove our capabilities to all our customers, both inside and outside the government. We use the same disciplined approach in all our development efforts, and we believe our customers appreciate that Amcom solutions can perform at the highest levels of security and interoperability."
