EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has contracted Defenshield Inc. for the company's mobile ballistic-resistant shield technologies to support operations in Iraq.

New York-based Defenshield received a follow-on deal with three separate orders from the U.S. military worth more than $1 million. Company officials say under the contracts, they will provide their Mobile Defensive Fighting Positions and Barrier Caps for U.S. military operations at Camp Fallujah and Kirkuk Air Base in Iraq and also at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Defenshield's Mobile Defensive Fighting Position technology, with more than 500 units deployed supporting operations in combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, provides troops a blast-resistant shield enabling enhanced protection from terrorists and other militant threats.

The Mobile Defensive Fighting Position protects the "military, anti-terrorism teams, combat groups and observers, infrastructure security guards and others who come under the threat of rifle fire or terrorist attacks," the release said.

Company officials say deliveries on the newly announced contract are expected to begin at the end of August.
