HAWTHORNE, Calif., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- California-based OSI Systems Inc. has received a $27 million contract for its cargo and vehicle X-ray inspection technologies.

OSI Systems says its security division, Rapiscan Systems, received the award from an unnamed international government customer for the company's Eagle Mobile Cargo and Vehicle Inspection systems.

The Rapiscan Eagle Mobile inspection unit, capable of examining a 20-foot container for potential security threats in less than 10 seconds, has been deployed as a way to advance the X-ray scanning technology at ports and international crossing points, among other applications.

Under the announced contract, Rapiscan will provide installation along with service and support.

"We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this international contract," Ajay Mehra, Rapiscan Systems president, said in a statement.

"The Rapiscan Eagle Mobile offers a tremendous amount of flexibility when it comes to the inspection of trucks and containers for contraband items. Furthermore, we believe the systems provide superior penetration and image resolution while being self-contained on a road-worthy commercial truck that can be relocated and deployed rapidly within various checkpoint environments."
