IRVING, Texas, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded a task order to EF Johnson Technologies Inc. for the company's submersible radio technologies.

Texas-based EF Johnson Technologies was awarded a $2 million task order with funds allocated from a previous Homeland Security Department contract for $16 million awarded in October 2007.

Under the deal, EF Johnson Technologies will supply its Project 25 compliant radios. Officials say the radios, featuring the company's Enhanced P25 Vocoder technologies, meet military submersible requirements.

"Our Project 25 compliant radios feature the Enhanced P25 Vocoder, and with the immersion housing they meet military specifications for submersibility," Michael Jalbert, EF Johnson Technologies chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"This is the third order we have received from this DHS customer, and they have praised how responsive all levels of our organization have been throughout the fulfillment of the previous orders."
