LANCASTER, Pa., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- AgustaWestland has contracted Herley Industries Inc. for encoder technologies in support of a helicopter deal with the British Ministry of Defense.

Pennsylvania-based Herley will supply its PCM770 Encoders to support an AgustaWestland contract to build the Lynx helicopter for the British army and navy. Herley's PCM770 Encoders will be used in the Lynx flight test data acquisition system.

"Herley's test instrumentation and data acquisition product line is widely accepted for flight testing airborne vehicles," Myron Levy, Herley chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We are pleased to support the United Kingdom and AgustaWestland in this important program."

AgustaWestland's Lynx helicopters will become the British army's new reconnaissance helicopter and the navy's new maritime surface combatant helicopter.
