FALLS CHURCH, Va., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- DynCorp International has been awarded a follow-on contract to continue training civilian police forces in Afghanistan.

The 18-month, $317.4 million International Civilian Police contract is from the U.S. State Department. Under the deal, DynCorp will continue work on the Afghanistan Civilian Adviser Support program.

DynCorp, which has been working under the International Civilian Police contract vehicle since 2003, will continue training civilian police advisers in Afghanistan. Officials say as many as 580 civilian police advisers are expected to be trained by DynCorp in support of the Afghanistan National Police and the Ministry of Interior.

"This is more than a contract for us," William Ballhaus, DynCorp International chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"It's an opportunity to contribute to peace, stability and democracy in the world, something very few companies get the chance to do. It's an honor to support our government's efforts to improve people's lives, for us as a company and for every person who serves on the International Civilian Police program."
