THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Teledyne Technologies announced plans to acquire Filtronic's United Kingdom-based military microwave technologies developer Defense Electronics.

The Defense Electronics acquisition, expected to occur before the end of August, is for approximately $25.7 million. Defense Electronics is a developer of customized microwave subassemblies for military applications, including radars and electronic countermeasure technologies, among other uses.

Teledyne's acquisition of Defense Electronics is part of a company initiative to expand into the military microwave market Defense Electronics reputation for complex microwave receiver front-end subsystems.

"The acquisition of Filtronic's Defense Electronics business further expands Teledyne's capabilities in defense microwave subsystems," Robert Mehrabian, Teledyne chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"This acquisition, which will add expertise in receiver subsystems and digital signal processing, is consistent with Teledyne's strategy to provide more highly integrated microwave subsystems to our defense customers."
