Army deploys new surveillance technology

OWATONNA, Minn., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has deployed new surveillance technology from STS International and Actua Systems in support of military operations in Iraq.

Officials say the Army has begun using several Portable Sensor Platforms from STS International and Actua Systems. The PSP, designed by STS International, utilizes Actua Systems Inc.'s patented PositionIt positioning technology enabling portable surveillance capabilities in Iraq.

The PositionIt system, also used in several civilian applications, elevates electro-optical/infrared sensors and communications technologies 14 feet in the air and is easily transported during military operations.

Actua is currently in the process of marketing the technology to the emergency response industry for disaster and emergency applications.
