CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., July 7 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman Corp. announced the launch of a new integrated desktop marine radar capable of navigating in sea or rain clutter.

Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit announced the release of the VisionMaster FT 250. Officials say the new maritime navigation technology is compliant with the latest International Electrotechnical Commission performance standards and carriage requirements for the International Maritime Organization for vessels with 5,000 to 10,000 gross tonnage.

The new radar technology is an effort to offer smaller ships the capability of integrated marine navigation with automatic clutter-suppression and ensuring detection and tracking of small radar targets even while dealing with sea or rain clutter.

"The VisionMaster FT 250 desktop radar gives smaller vessels the automatic tracking and plotting technology in a compact, cost-effective, easy-to-install package," John Robinson, Sperry Marine's strategic business unit director for radar, said in a statement.
