
TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army contracted Raytheon Co. to support the Base Expeditionary Targeting and Surveillance System program with persistent surveillance technologies.
Raytheon will provide its rapid aerostat initial deployment elevated sensor systems to the Army under the $86.6 million contract award. Raytheon's RAID technology, which uses elevated infrared sensors to enable persistent surveillance, will be deployed as part of the Base Expeditionary Targeting and Surveillance System program in support of U.S. military operations in Iraq.
"The high demand for the RAID system demonstrates its effectiveness in saving lives," Pete Franklin, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems national and theater security programs vice president, said in a statement.
"RAID continues to be one of the most valuable systems fielded today, and Raytheon is proud to be a partner with the U.S. Army in this critically important endeavor."
