ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Harris Corp. for high-frequency radio communications technology for implementation in mine resistant ambush protected vehicles.
Under the $42 million deal, New York-based Harris will provide 1,400 Harris Falcon II AN/VRC-104(V) vehicular adapter systems for installation by the Army in MRAP vehicles.
Officials say the AN/VRC-104(V) adapter kits provide all of the installation components for the Falcon II AN/PRC-150(C) manpack secure HF radio. Harris says the HF radio technology will be delivered in line with the U.S. Defense Department's highest-priority MRAP program.
"Harris HF radios continue to set the standard for terrestrial, long-haul beyond-line-of-site communications. The AN/PRC-150(C) is the most advanced HF tactical radio ever developed and has become the standard throughout the U.S. military," George Helm, Harris RF Communications U.S. government products vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
"This technology provides secure mobile communications, without the use of satellites, to stay connected. We're pleased to continue working with the Department of Defense on this very important program."
