PINE BROOK, N.J., June 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced a follow-on contract with Smiths Detection for the company's screening technologies.
The $25.2 million contract with Smiths Detection follows the successful installation of the company's advanced threat identification X-ray systems at Albuquerque and Denver International airports.
Smiths Detection officials say the aTiX system, also widely deployed at airports in England, captures multiple images during the baggage screening process detecting threats to security.
"This is a significant win for an advanced X-ray system that will greatly improve the TSA's ability to detect potential threats," Stephen Phipson, Smiths Detection group managing director, said in a statement.
"With its multiple views generating clear images, the system provides the platform for future checkpoint screening and a strategic growth opportunity for Smiths Detection in the U.S. and internationally."
