INDIANAPOLIS, June 5 (UPI) -- Rolls-Royce has successfully completed a design review of its new engine technologies for the next-generation U.S. military aerospace platforms.
Rolls-Royce North America Technologies (LibertyWorks) operations in Indianapolis announced the Adaptive Versatile Engine Technology successfully completed a preliminary design review. Officials say the milestone achievement is an effort to design a propulsion system with high-thrust capabilities.
The ADVENT next-generation engine technology, designed with funding from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, offers increased fuel efficiency in addition to the enhanced take-off and maneuvering capabilities achieved by the new high-thrust propulsion.
"In addition to the successful preliminary design review, we are also progressing on the ADVENT program by beginning component rig testing of an adaptive fan system at our Indianapolis facilities," Phil Burkholder, LibertyWorks chief operating officer, said in a statement.
"Both the preliminary design review and the rig testing are examples of how LibertyWorks is meeting the requirements of its customer, working towards the shared vision of creating an ADVENT family of next-generation engines that deliver the range and persistence required for 21st century aircraft."
