FALLS CHURCH, Va., May 30 (UPI) -- U.S. company Navistar Defense has contracted DynCorp International to provide field service and support for mine resistant ambush protected vehicles.

Under the initial $60 million award, Virginia-based DynCorp will support the Navistar Defense MRAP vehicles currently deployed by the U.S. military in Iraq. DynCorp will be responsible for field service support and training for the MRAP program.

Officials say if all options are exercised, the logistics support contract has a potential value of up to $500 million over five years.

Navistar Defense's MRAP production, with contracts for more than 5,200 vehicles for delivery to the U.S. military, is a Defense Department initiative to offer soldiers in conflict zones additional protection from the improvised explosive devices and other threats utilized by terrorist operatives.
