PINE BROOK, N.J., May 27 (UPI) -- The Transportation Security Administration has installed Smiths Detection's Advanced Threat Identification X-ray systems at Denver International Airport.
The Denver airport received 28 of the Smiths Detection aTiX units after a successful trial of the screening technology at the Albuquerque International Sunport airport. Smiths Detection officials say the Denver installation marks the largest deployment of their aTiX technology in the United States.
The aTiX units, which replace eight security checkpoint lanes at the Denver airport, capture several views of passenger baggage and detect potential threats to security.
Stephen Phipson, Smiths Detection group managing director, said in a statement, "aTiX technology represents a major breakthrough in checkpoint security that will benefit the traveling public worldwide."
"We are pleased to be working with TSA to offer this advancement throughout the U.S. aTiX is already deployed extensively in the United Kingdom, and it has the potential to diminish throughput time for passengers."
